Sikhi Game of love- HOLY DAY

HOLY DAY

Most of the faith traditions of the world, observe special, holy or auspicious days. The most well known of these is the concept of the Sabbath in the Abrahamic faiths. The Sabbath is  a day that is specifically for worship.

We also have other examples such as days of fasting or indeed the holy month of fasting in the case of Islam.

The Sikh philosophy takes a slightly different approach to this concept. Essentially, the Sikh Gurus and other contributors to the Sikh scriptures, have instead aligned themselves to a principle of the personal state of mind of an individual, defining whether a day is holy or special.

The Sikhโ€™s daily spiritual practice is what defines our special day. The teaching of the Sikh Gurus is that every day, that we successfully engage in Naam Meditation, that day is the most holy and special. That second, minute, hour, that we engage in the Naam, is our holiest day.

We do not need to wait for a certain time/day/month to engage in spirituality. Instead, we need to proactively work to make every single moment of our time, on this earth the most special and holy existence. This will only happen when the Naam meditation gets to a stage that it permanently resounds within the mind. One will know themselves when they have reached this development, as at this point, they will feel at peace and very high spirited at all times.

Whilst there are many teachings to be found on this principle, Guru Amar Dass Jee, the 3rd Guru, offers us the following verse.

Vaelaa Vakhath Sabh Suhaaeiaa ||
That time, that moment is totally beautiful,

Jith Sachaa Maerae Man Bhaaeiaa ||
When the True One becomes pleasing to my mind.

Sachae Saeviai Sach Vaddiaaee Gur Kirapaa Thae Sach Paavaniaa ||2||
Serving the True One, true greatness is obtained. By Guru's Grace, the True One is obtained. ||2||

Vaheguroo!
