WHY DO I WANT MORE!
Early one day, a man went to see Guru Sahib Ji. As he was travelling to meet Guru ji, he met the beloved Suthra Shah on the way. "Where is Guru Ji?" he lovingly asked Suthra. Suthra, in a very negative voice uttered, "thwadey Guru di yaee di thaee" (no one cares about your Guru).
The man was very upset at Suthras response and told the Singhs who
served very closely to Guru Sahib Ji. Upon hearing this, the Singhs immediately took Suthra and the man to Guru Ji. Guru Ji questioned Suthra with great love. Suthra was very dear to Guru Ji, as he had a very child like innocent character. Guru Ji knew Suthra would probably be right in this situation too.
Suthra responded in great emotion to Guru Sahib ji. He said, "A year ago, he was coming to you Guru Ji with a 1000 Rupees for Seva (selfless service), his wife stopped him immediately and said, your Guru is very wealthy, he doesn't need that much money. The man stopped in his tracks. This occurred for a full year and today the man has come with 200 Rupees. Guru Ji, when I see Singhs like this, it makes me question their love, respect, honour and faith for you. You are the giver to all and yet they struggle to give their dasvandh (tenth of their honest earnings) for a noble cause. Now you tell me Guru Ji, who is their real Guru? Is it their attachment to family or maya (wealth/materialism)?"
Guru ji hugged Suthra in a tight embrace and blessed him, like he did throughout his whole life.
We still suffer today. Do we recognise where our wealth, beautiful houses, lush cars, smart clothes etc have come from. We owe it all to our loving Guru. They will always provide for us in time of need and throughout thick and thin.
We remember Guru Ji in sad times and ask for their support. Have we ever remembered Guru ji in the good, happy times, have we ever thanked them for the meal we receive today, yet the many millions starve and are without shelter in the world.
Sikhs have been blessed with a rich history and heritage, yet we think we have generated this wealth through our own doings (ego).
Let's all take some time out to reflect on the deeper YOU. Let's all thank Guru Ji for their love and support. Let's all thank Guru ji before and after each meal we eat, thank Guru ji for the bed we sleep on, the clothes we wear, the lovely children we have the beautiful materialistic gifts they have offered us.
All this will remain here when this body departs. Only our actions, thoughts and soul will depart with us.
We are all filthy rich in our own way, we've just not realised the true wealth of love. Meditate in remembrance on the love of Gods name and see how Guru ji brings happiness and contentment in to your lives.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji says, "Wisdom, honor and wealth are in the laps of those whose hearts remain permeated with the Lord."
